Different
Types Of Acne Scars And How To Get Rid Of
Them
When our body gets injured, it always needs to do something
fast to protect itself. Acne infection is also projected in our
body as some type of injury that needs immediate repair.
Whenever our body senses acne, it sends white blood cells and
other molecules to fight the infection and attempt to repair
the infected area. If the damage is too big, the body will not
be able to repair the skin properly and it will leave a scar as
a sign of repair. Scars will usually stay on the skin forever,
but today there are some things you can do to improve the
appearance of the scars. Let’s take a look at the different
types of acne scars and then we will discuss the different
options on how to get rid of acne scars so that your skin
will look smooth again.
Types of acne scars
Before we mention the different types of scars, keep in mind
that everyone has distinctive tendency of scar
formation. While
some people will develop very few scars, others may get much
deeper scars for the same type of acne. There are two categories of
scars – scars caused by lost tissue and scars caused by
increased tissue formation.
Depressed scars:
These scars can consist of different types such as ice-pick scars,
depressed fibrotic scars, soft scars and
macular.
When the cyst extends with pus, bacteria, oil and dead
skin cells, it ruptures and attacks the
dermis.
Then, white blood cells are sent quickly to protect the
dermis. This
rupture can create loss of collagen and then elevate to
recess or depression. The outer surface of
the skin is left unsupported due to the loss of tissue
underneath it and a saucer shaped or jagged ice pick scar
is formed.
Ice pick scars develop mostly on the face.
Keloids
scars: These scars will form in a reverse fashion for some
people. When their
body loses too much collagen, the body starts triggering
fibroblasts that produce excessive collagen and then form scar
tissues called keloids. Keloids are more commonly
found on male torsos. Another type of increased
tissue formation scar is known as hypertrophic
scar.
Hypertrophy means overgrowth.
Acne Scar Treatments
There are several different types of acne scar treatments that
can be performed by your dermatologist, depending on the type
of scar that you have. Before proceeding for scar treatment,
your doctor will discuss your feelings about the scars with
you. The cost involved will play a role in the type of
treatment you choose. The result you desire to get is yet
another factor.
The type of treatment, the severity of your acne and where on
your body is located are other factors that have to be used
when treating acne scars. The most common treatments
for acne scars are collagen treatment, laser treatment,
dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, skin surgery and skin
grafting. Keloids
could be left untreated if it is predicted that will develop
further keloids.
Steroid injections may also be used to treat
keloids.
