Identify
Your Type Of Acne Before You Get
Treatment
Understanding how to treat acne requires you to know what type
of acne you may have. Acne has several variations, going from
severity from mild to much more serious cases which can cause
physical disfigurement. There are various treatments for acne
available on the market today, but it is extraordinarily
important to first identify your acne type before you get
treatment.
Acne Vulgaris
The most common type of acne is called Acne
Vulgaris. This
form of acne can be easily recognized by looking at the
characteristics of the lesions.
Whiteheads:
When a pore becomes entirely blocked by trapping sebum, dead
skin cells, and bacteria, you will see a white appearance on
the surface of the skin. You should stay away from
popping these pimples.
Blackheads:
When the pore is only partly blocked, the trapped sebum, dead
skin and bacteria will have gradually drained to the surface of
the skin. The
black color originates from the skin’s pigment and melanin
reacting with oxygen. Blackheads will typically
take longer to fade away than whiteheads. You should also resist the
temptation to pop these pimples.
Pustules:
You can spot a pustule by a red circle with a white or yellow
center. The
pustule looks a lot like a whitehead with the difference being
inflammation.
Pustules are commonly known as Zits.
Papules:
The papule consists of a red, inflamed and tender bump on your
skin with no noticeable head. It would be better if you
don’t attempt to squeeze this lesion because you could cause or
exacerbate scarring.
Severe Acne Vulgaris:
The severe types of Acne Vulgaris include Nodules and Cysts and
can be very painful. If you have these, you should
consult your dermatologist for treating these types of acne.
Acne Rosacea
Acne Rosacea sometimes looks very similar to Acne Vulgaris and
it often creates confusion. There are millions of people
affected by Acne Rosacea and it typically strikes individuals
over the age of thirty. It will start by appearing as
a reddish rash on the cheeks, forehead, nose and/or
chin. You may also
observe small bumps, skin blemishes or pimples in the
area. It is better
if you consult with your dermatologist if you suspect you have
Rosacea for the reason that treatment is often very
different.
There are other very serious kinds of acne, like Acne
Conglobata, Gram-Negative Folliculitis, Acne Fulminans and
Pyoderma Faciale.
These kinds of acne are very uncommon, but they can be
disfiguring, painful and even lead to severe psychological
effects.
It is always recommended that you consult with your doctor to
confirm the form of acne you have and the best acne treatments
available for you. The above information should be used only as
a reference, and only a trained dermatologist can accurately
diagnose your type of acne.
